What is ASF?
ASF stands for
Advanced Streaming Format.
ASF is a proprietary
streaming format developed by Microsoft that provides streaming
media services for the Windows Media framework.

palyed back, content is deliverd to you as a continuous flow of
data. You no longer have to wait for the whole video and audio file

a few seconds. ASF files can be played back with the Windows Media
Player (provided the appropriate codecs are installed), streamed

What is ASX?
ASX stands for
Advanced Stream Redirector. Active stream redirector (.asx) file.
ASX files provide
information that a NetShow Player needs to receive either unicast
or multicast ASF streams. An ASX file may be encrypted or not. An
unencrypted ASX file is simply a text file that contains the URL's
for the ASF streams. ASX file is not a ASF file. An ASX file is
used to store information on servers and media files for streaming
video and audio over the Internet, such as multimedia web sites.
The ASX file is a simple text file that contains server and media
information, so you can easily find out the name of the file and
server address of the streaming content with a text editor.
